Description: The Superior National Forest has a requirement for Birch Lake Shoreline Control. Stabilize erosion on the shoreline and slope at seven locations on Birch Lake. The erosion is being caused by fluctuating water levels, recreational boating and mooring. The project includes placing rip rap and tree trunks with root wads on the shoreline, placing soil erosion blankets up slope, and planting shrubs and willow and/or dogwood cuttings. At recreation sites, steps will be constructed to direct travel to the top of the slope for camping. Estimated construction price range is between $25,000 and $100,000.
