SOURCES SOUGHT SYNOPSIS: Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane is seeking solutions to flash and sound suppression needs for its 7.62mm Machine Guns, MK48 and M240B. The required effort is to explore industry capability to supply a coordinated modular family of complementary flash/sound suppressors. MGSS System configurations are desired to support the MK48 and the M240B. This program is interested in seeking extended life, expanded application, high-endurance machine gun flash and sound suppression solutions that demonstrate noteworthy capabilities. Ultimately, the MGSS will correct the current operational shortfall of sound suppressors that are optimized for use with current MK48 and M240B machine guns. Sought are Non Development Items that lessen effects on host weapon rate of fire and eliminate or reduce heat retention, visual and auditory cues, materials, high endurance coatings, with yield extended performance sound suppressor life to 15,000 - 25,000! rounds under various firing schedules. MGSS will have an effective muzzle flash device and a separate sound & flash suppressor device and be required to fit the 7.62mm MK48 barrel and M240B barrel. Sources shall address Fit, Function, Flash Suppression, Sound Suppression/Distortion, SOF Environment (Surf, Rough Handling), Accuracy, and Interoperability in relating their organization's experience, understanding and plan for resolving the issues. Delivery of suppressors may be required 120 days after award of purchase orders. Interested parties shall respond to this announcement by providing the following information regarding the MGSS: a) A technical description of the product, such as photographs, physical characteristics, operational features, and performance data. This should consist of product literature, operating instructions, and/or supplemental technical documentation that define the MGSS and associated hardware. b) Cost and delivery information for a quantity of four (4) units of each configuration that may be purchased for Go vernment testing. c) Estimated cost and delivery for production quantities of 1 to 100 each; 100 to 500 each; and 500 to 1000 each.
