Description
NOTICE OF INTENT TO NEGOTIATE A SOLE SOURCE CONTRACT FOR THE PACIFIC MARINE ENVIRONMENTAL LABORATORY (PMEL). PURPOSE OF PROPOSED CONTRACT IS TO PURCHASE IDRONAUT MULTIPARAMETER ?FLOW THROUGH? SENSOR MODULE SENSORS FROM GENERAL OCEANICS INC. PMEL IS AN INTERNATIONAL LEADER IN DETERMINING PARTIAL PRESSURE OF CO2 (pCO2) IN THE WORLD?S OCEANS. IN ORDER TO DETECT THE SMALL SECULAR CHANGES IN OCEAN CARBON FLUXES, THESE GLOBAL OBSERVATIONS MUST BE AT THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE QUALITY. IN ORDER TO ACCURATELY CALCULATE THE pCO2 IN THE SEA SURFACE, PMEL MUST HAVE ANCILLARY MEASUREMENTS INCLUDING SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURE AND SALINITY. PMEL WILL BE DEPLOYING NEW pCO2 SYSTEMS ON VOS AND RESEARCH SHIPS TO FURTHER QUANTIFY THE FLUX OF CO2 AND TO EVALUATE EFFECTS OF EL NINO AND SEASONAL PROCESSES ON CO2 DISTRIBUTIONS. PMEL SYSTEMS WILL RUN IN STAND-ALONE MODE. THE IDRONAUT MULTIPARAMETER ?FLOW THROUGH? SENSOR MODULE IS DESIGNED TO BE INTEGRATED INTO AN AUTOMATED pCO2 SYSTEM. THE IDRONAUT MULTIPARAMETER SENSOR MODULE IS THE ONLY KNOWN SENSOR THAT IS A COMPONENT PART AND INTEGRATED INTO pCO2 SYTEMS MEASURING CONDUCTIVITY, TEMPERATURE, OXYGE, PH, AND REDOX, AND ALSO IS THE ONLY KNOWN BRAND THAT OFFERS LONG STERN SENSOR STABILITY FOR UNATTENDED DATA COLLECTION IN ROUGH SEA WATER CONDITIONS. DATA ON GENERAL OCEANICS SENSORS CAN BE STORED DIRECTLY ON A PC AND SENSORS CAN BE CLEANED IN THE FIELD WITHOUT THE NEED FOR RECALIBRATION. SENSORS MUST BE DELIVERED BY 7/10/2006. THIS IS A SIMPLIFIED ACQUISITION WITH AN ESTIMATED VALUE OF LESS THAN $100,000.
