- Description
- The US Army Communications Electronics Research, Development & Engineering Center (CERDEC), Fort Monmouth, NJ is conducting an industry survey of interested sources, under the BAA Solicitation Topic Number S0408 Urban/Subterranean Networking Technolo gy to develop a potable ad-hoc wireless transmission network capable of providing reliable, near real time communication in an urban/ subterranean (cave, tunnels ,etc) environment. The system must be capable of handling (packet) voice, data, imagery and vi deo in point to point, multicast and anycast transmission modes. The network nodes must be man portable and energy efficient (operate for extended time on battery power alone). The system must be self-initializing, self-healing, untethered, and support nod es that may enter and leave the network. The CERDEC is interested in assessing the capabilities of this technology and its potential deployment to Army tactical units. It is CERDECs intention to eventually purchase from 10 to 40 units. Each system must be able to be capable of operation as a stand alone wireless system and as a sub-network within current legacy networks. The system must be capable of operating secure and LPI/LPD as is typical in the combat environment. The system must be capable of a minim um of 20-50 nodes as in a typical multihopping networking configuration. In addition, it is possible that a number of these nodes may be carried by individual soldiers, robotic vehicles or mini- UAVs, so that size, weight and power (including battery lifet imes) are critical parameters. These systems must be capable of operating in a C4I network and be capable the simultaneous transfer of voice, data, text, pictures, audio and video at the maximum data rate of at least 2 Mbps. The contractor must provide use r training, operator manuals/applications and frequency spectrum support. At this time CERDEC requests that interested sources provide information regarding their man-portable wireless transmission network equipment. This information should include all the elements that comprise the man-portable wireless transmission system to include brochures, pictures and specifications. This request for information (RFI)/Sources Sought (SS) Notice is for information and planning purposes only and shall not be construed as a solicitation or as an obligation on the part of the US Army CERDEC. The purpose of this RFI/SS is to identify potential sources that may be interested in and capable of performing the work described herein. US Army CERDEC does not intend to award a co ntract on the basis of responses nor otherwise pay for the preparation of any information submitted or for CERDECs use of such information. Acknowledgement of receipt of responses will not be made, nor will respondents be notified of CERDECs evaluation of the information received. An original and one copy shall be sent to the US Army, Communications Electronics Research, Development & Engineering Center (CERDEC), Attn: AMSRD-CER-ST-WL-AW, Wesley Rucker, Fort Monmouth, NJ 07703-5303. Technical questions may be directed to Wesley Rucker at 732-427-2498.
