Description
On behalf of the Department of Homeland Security?s Office of Science and Technology Counter Measures Test Bed program (DHS S&T CMTB), Sandia National Laboratories is requesting information concerning commercial or near-commercial portal-type equipment for the detection of body-borne suicide bombs. The mechanism for detection can include (but is not limited to) millimeter wave (MMW) imaging, infrared (IR) imaging or terahertz (THz) imaging. Imaging techniques may be either passive or active. Technologies must provide rapid detection (i.e., 5 seconds or less). In order to participate in laboratory and field testing, equipment manufacturers must be willing to loan equipment to the DHS under a no-cost purchase order or similar agreement. Equipment must be available for laboratory and field testing for approximately 8-12 weeks beginning May 1, 2006. Equipment manufacturers must also be willing to provide technical support regarding system operation. Please submit information in the form of a one-page white paper to: Eric S Varley Sandia National Laboratories esvarle@sandia.gov White papers must include the following information: - Contact information for system manufacturer - Physical description of the system (including a picture) - Operational description of the system (including screening time and the procedure and mechanism for detection) - Description of system maturity (laboratory prototype versus commercially available product) - Description of what measures the manufacturer has taken to protect the privacy of the individual being screened
