- LOCATION: Water Jet Cutting Machines, Building 230, RIA, Rock Island, IL 1. Vacuum removal of accumulated spent garnet sand media (non- hazardous) and metal fines from one (1) to two (2) water/media holding tanks. 2. Holding vessels measure 42 high x 11 long and 42 high x 7.5 (bottom tapered) wide x 11.5 long. 3. Rock Island Arsenal personnel shall dewater tanks and remove cover grates prior to arrival of contractor. 4. Non-hazardous material shall be transported to a landfill for disposal as an alternative use media. Contractor is responsible for all permits and fees. 5. The tanks require cleaning approximately every 3 4 weeks. Scheduling shall be on a as needed basis. The reponse time shall be within 12 hours of a call from RIA personnel. 6. Time to complete job shall not be more than one shift (8 hour period) 7. Contractor will need at least a 5,000 high cfm wet/dry vacuum loader truck. Since both tanks are to be cleaned during the same 8 hour period, contractor will probably need 2 trucks. A recent determination has been made that now identifies the holding vessels (RIA #33531 and RIA #33674) as those meeting the definition of confined space. Per RIAR 385-10, paragraph 16.5 All spaces on the RIA shall be considered Permit Required Confined Spaces . This is being done to include the implementation of Confined Space Entry permit procedures. This is to include submission of a written Confined Space Entry plan, procedures for issuing confined space entry work permits, verification of completed confined space entry training and samples of the confined space entry permit.
