Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) proposes to negotiate on a sole source basis a contract under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) with U.S. Laser Corp, 825 Windham Court North, Wychoff, NJ 07481 for the upgrade of a Government owned U.S. Laser 406-1 Nd:YAG laser with maximum power 500 W, which has provided calibrations reliably for ten years. A new project requires the laser power to be upgraded to 1000 W level. NIST's space, cooling water supply and electricity are suitable to upgrade the existing 406-1 laser to 408-2 laser, which will provide maximum power of 1400 W (1000 W with fiber output). The flash lamp pumped Nd:YAG laser made by U.S. Laser has proportional cooling water flow control, which provides better laser stability than the on/off method. U.S. Laser requires a trade-in of the 406-1 laser head to upgrade it to 408-2. NIST requires an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) type laser. This procurement is being conducted per FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures (Under $100,000). This synopsis is issued for information purposes. Questions should be submitted in writing to the contracting officer either by fax or email. Information submitted in response to this notice will be used solely to determine whether or not use of competitive procedures to fulfill this requirement would be in the Government's best interest and must address qualifications pertinent to this requirement. Anticipated award date will be May 9, 2006.
