- Description
- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineer, New Orleans District has a requirement for two mobile (truck or all terrain) cranes to lower and raise gates at 3 outfall canal closures. Cranes will be rented for an initial period of two month with monthly options not to exceed 1 Dec 2006. Crane will be delivered to the 17th Street Coast Guard Station, New Orleans Louisiana on 25 May 2006. The applicable North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code is 532412 and the small business size standard is $6.5 Million. This requirement is advertised as unrestricted and open to all qualified sources. The requirement will be procured on a firm fixed price basis. EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS: (Brand Name or Equal) Equipment will be similar to Grove RT 530 E, Grove RT 535E, Grove RT 600E, Link-Belt HTC 8640, etc. Cranes shall have 30-60 ton capacity. The outriggers, fully extended, shall fit within the clear width of the crane deck on each structure 24 ft. The total weight of each gate with spreader bar and rigging is 25,000 lbs, with a lifting radius of 20-25 ft, depending on the outrigger spread. The contractor shall submit all crane specifications, lifting capacity or load charts and equipment dimensions for each machine proposed. This includes load capabilities with the outriggers fully extended and the load being lifted over the side of the cra ne, between the outriggers. Overview: There are 3 outfall canals in Orleans parish that will have gated closure structures in place by the beginning of the 2006 hurricane season. The structures will have from 11 to 13 gates that can be closed in the event of an approaching storm wh ere the surge is predicted to exceed the safe water limit in the outfall canals. Winch driven operating systems are currently being designed and installation is expected sometime during hurricane season. The cranes will be the primary raising and lowering mechanism until the winch system is installed. The cranes may remain on standby at the structures following winch installation as the backup to the winch system. The cranes will remain secured on site for the duration of any storm event to be available for structure opening following the event. The gates will be raised when the lake level reaches the safe level in the canals to allow drainage water to exit the canals.
