Description
The purpose of the Human Portable Radiation Detection Systems (HPRDS) program is to design, develop, enhance, and produce the next generation of handheld, backpack, and other HPRDS units. The primary technical mission associated with the development of these HPRDS units is accurate and rapid detection, identification, and reporting of threat material and objects including nuclear weapons, components of nuclear weapons, improvised nuclear devices, and radionuclides that can be used to manufacture a radiological dispersal device (RDD), with sufficient discrimination to separate innocent radiating materials from threat materials. In particular, the HPRDS program will pursue improvements (display and controls, connectivity, weight, algorithm performance, and isotope identification) in scintillation and semiconductor radiation detectors through spiral development. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) may make multiple awards of Indefinite Delivery / Indefinite Quantity contracts, each with a period of performance of one base year and four option years. It is anticipated that each contract will include Cost Plus Award Fee (CPAF) and Firm Fixed Price (FFP) Contract Line Item Numbers, (CLINs).
