- Description
- The work consists of utilizing an all-earthen levee section to repair the failed breaches at Braithwaite and Scarsdale. The total length of the repair is approximately 3600 linear feet. The levee will be constructed to a design height of 11.5 feet NAVD 88 plus overbuild. Repair sections will be shifted to the floodside to avoid poor foundation areas and to allow excavation of some of the temporary flood fight materials (sand bags, cables, rock) in order to install the required clay cover. Existing parish-owned land in the immediate vicinity of the project along with contractor furnished clay material would be utilized for all necessary levee embankment material. Damaged levee slopes will be reconstructed utilizing a 1.3 design factor of safety. PI R levee design cross sections are currently based on conservative assumptions due to a lack of soil boring data. Upon receipt of soil boring data for the repair areas, design sections will be appropriately adjusted to reflect actual conditions. The repai rs include placement of approximately 15,000 cubic yards of sand fill, 250,000 cubic yards of compacted fill, and 235,000 cubic yards of uncompacted fill. Geotextiles will be utilized to provide stability and additional strength to soil foundations and to minimize the actual footprint of the levee, thus lessening environmental impacts to the area. This solicitation is issued as a Best Value Unrestricted procurement. NAICS: 237990, FSC: Y299. RFP will be issued on or about 23 May 2006. Estimated re ceipt of proposals will be 23 June 2006.
