Description
Description: Potential offerors for an AFMLP are notified that PM Sensors and Laser is looking for sources to provide information on is a signaling device that will be utilized by Aircrew Soldiers to direct fires, identify friend and foe, and signal adjacent formations. The laser pointer is intended for aircrews of select manned aircraft in maneuver, maneuver support and maneuver sustainment roles involved in missions ranging from Major Combat Operations, Stability Operations, Homeland Security, and Strategic Deterrence. These Aircrew Soldiers include: pilots, crew chiefs, flight engineers, and door gunners. Rationale: The AFMLP is expected to be a Commercial and Non-Developmental Item (NDI) initiative. It will leverage existing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware currently being used in similar commercial and military applications. Reliability and Mai ntainability (R&M) characteristics of the NDI/COTS equipment are expected to satisfy the needs of the military user. The material developer shall ensure that the AFMLP possesses R&M characteristics consistent with comparable equipment currently used in co mmercial or military applications. General capabilities for the AFMLP: 1. To operate with either hand without interfering with flight controls and maintain ability to ingress & egress aircraft unimpeded in the CH-47D/F, UH-60 A/L/M, HH-60 A/L/M, EUH-60 L/M, OH-58D(I/R), ARH, AH-64 A/D, LUH, SOA R/W, and FCA. 2. Employ a near IR beam that is ? moon clear condition visible to AN/PVS-14&7 Night Vision Devices equipped aircrews and ground Soldiers. 3. Powered by commercially available batteries. 4. Target objects at 3 km at night in an urban environment. 5. Use an adjustable beam in either a spot or flood configuration 6. Display a NVD compatible operating or witness light preventing accidental exposure and usage. 7. Guarded On/Off switch preventing incidental activation. 8. Prevent reflection back into the cockpit. 9. Utilize lightweight, breathable, fire retardant material compatible with approved flyers gloves. 10. Minimum nominal ocular hazard distance compatible with 2&4 above. All offerors will submit their information to Jorge R. Concepcion by June 15 2006 Jorge.Concepcion@us.army.mil
