Description
The U.S. Geological Survey, Sacramento, CA intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with: Timothy E. Dawson, 949 McCue Ave, San Carlos, CA 94070. The proposed contract is the development of a Geographic Information System (GIS) database of fault displacement from historical and paleoseismic observations, field review of large single event earthquake displacements for incorporation into the database, and analysis of these data to place a limit on the maximum displacement that can be anticipated. Experience in mapping Quaternary faults and fault displacements at the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository site. Direct field experience in measuring fault displacement from individual historical surface ruptures, from fault scraps, and in paleoseismic exposures of paleoearthquakes. GIS expertise in: a) developing GIS algorithms for analysis and interpretation of spatial patterns and variability of surface rupture: b) conducting vector-based analysis of the spatial distribution of point displacements along surface fault rupture; and c) rasterbased analysis of the distribution of surface fault rupture. The contractor, Timothy E. Dawson, posesses unique knowledge and skills relevant to the task of compiling a database and analyzing these data. The contractor has conducted paleoseismic research on normal faults in the Basin and Range including those that lie within Yucca Mountain, and was involved in collecting and developing the fault information that was used for the preliminary fault hazard analysis for the Yucca Mountain site. Furthermore, the contractor has extensive experience in compiling and analyzing data on historical surface faulting using GIS software and has developed a set of algorithms used in the GIS software to examine the spatial patterns of earthquake ruptures.
