Description
STATEMENT OF WORK Repair Eroded Banks with Concrete Blocks Kooskia National Fish Hatchery A recent (4/6/2006) high water event caused severe erosion around two hatchery structures. Hatchery intake and dam wall: High water eroded the riprap which provides access to the intake structure and protects the hatchery intake pipeline. Hatchery weir and Trap: High water undermined protective rock gabions, causing them to fall into the creek below the hatchery weir, flooding the trap area. Failure to repair the erosion will result in instability of the bank protecting the hatchery pipeline, which will threaten the pipeline and hatchery water supply. Failure to remove and replace the gabions below the weir will result in continued erosion of the bank. Also, leaving the gabions in the creek channel will cause the water to back up during high water and flood the fish trap area. Eco-block: A concrete block approximately 2x2x6ft weighing approximately 4000 lbs. These blocks are stackable and have an attachment at the top for being lifted into place. Replacement of the existing damaged structures with Eco Blocks is recommended. At the intake site a single row of block approximately 80 ft long will be needed. At the weir site a row 80 ft long and stacked two high will be needed. Excavating will be required to remove the old gabions, level up the eco blocks, and to backfill in behind the new eco blocks. Work will be performed at Kooskia National Fish Hatchery, which lies 2 miles up the Clear Creek County road. The hatchery has clear access to both worksites. Work will be performed during low water as equipment will have to enter the creek bed. Low water generally occurs between July 15 and August 30. No material will be left along the banks (other than backfilling the blocks) or in the creek bed, at the jobs conclusion. In order to remain compliant with the permit exemption, the original scope of the original structures that were in place shall not be exceeded. Work will be conducted under a permit exemption which allows Kooskia Fish Hatchery to work on or replace existing damaged structures. Kooskia NFH office hours are M-F 7:30am to 4:00pm. If work needs to extend beyond those hours, arrangement will be made. Technical Coordinator: Adam Izbicki or Gerald Fogleman (208) 926-4272.
