Description
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is seeking sources that can house, feed and care for an estimated 55 non-human primates (consisting of a mix census of up to 25 infant and juvenile chimpanzees and/or up to 50 Old World and New World non-human primates, with the intent not to exceed the estimated census total of 55 non-human primates) and species other than non-human primates (up to 25 other small animals consisting of rats, mice, rabbits, Guinea pigs or other small animals). The Contractor will be required to perform routine procedures on these animals which shall include, but not be limited to: inoculation of the animals with various hepatitis and other agents, monitoring animals for signs of disease, treatment with therapeutic regimens, and collection of specimens as described by protocols furnished by the Project Officer. The Contractor will also be required to deliver upon request, clinical specimens, drawn freshly from the animal, to NIAID within 2 hours after being drawn; preferably by 11:00 A.M. on the day obtained in order to achieve optimal virus viability. The Contractor?s professional and technical personnel assigned to this contract shall meet with scientists [t1] of the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases, NIAID, in Bethesda, Maryland, as needed for 2 hours, commencing at approximately the 1400 hour. Interested parties must provide a capability statement which demonstrates that the offeror: has appropriate facilities to house and care for the animals specified; can perform routine procedures on these animals as described above; can perform studies at both ABSL2 and ABSL3 levels of containment; possesses an AAALAC International file number, an OPRR Animal Welfare Assurance number, and a USDA Class R Research registration. This announcement is not a request for proposals but an attempt to survey the market for potential sources. Capability statements, including offeror?s business size, must be submitted to Ivan Hernandez at ihernandez@niaid.nih.gov on or before June12, 2006[t2] .
