- Description
- The Contractor shall furnish all supervision, labor, equipment, supplies, and materials to furnish a cultural resource inventory report for 1650 acres of Class III, intensive, inventory of rugged public lands with small gently-graded mesatops bisected by deep arroyos. Vegetation consists of dense old-growth pinyon-juniper woodland on the mesatops, brush-choked drainages and some open areas on the lower slopes covered with decadent sage. Moderate to deep reddish-brown windblown loess deposits occur on the mesatops; and the eroded arroyos and slopes off the Mesa Verde are composed of water impermeable dark gray shales. The mesatop soils were fertile and well-drained and frequently utilized by prehistoric pueblo peoples for farming; and elevations and climate in this area are suitable for growing corn. The steep western talus slopes of the Mesa Verde that form the eastern portion of the project area area highly erosive, with flash flooding a common occurrence in summer and fall, the water exiting the escarpment rapidly in the eastern portion of the survey area and slowing dramatically across the foothills in the western portion and into the upper reaches of McElmo Creek. None of these arroyos within the project area are named but they form much of the upper reaches of McElmo Creek. It is these arroyos that appear to have been the focus of farming activity and the use of complex water-retention features prehistorically. Unique, though not numerous, they appear to be very important architectural features incorporated into large communities and as such not represented with any frequency in the prehistoric record at yet. Evidence of historic agricultural development in this area exists as well and may possess a high degree of integrity as public access to this area has been generally limited by adjacent private land and the lack of easy public access . This award is not expected to exceed $100,000. The solicitation will be available by electronic posting only and may be found at www.fedbizopps.gov. Bidders may print the bid documents to submit their bid by mail, or bids may be submitted electronically. Facsimile bids will be accepted. FAX: 303/239-3699. The solicitation documents will be posted on or about 05/26/2006. Contractors are required to register or update their registration at the Central Contractor Registration website at www.ccr.gov in order to receive a contract award under this solicitation.
