- Description
- The Army has procured four (4) Common Remotely Operated Weapon System (CROWS) Lightning units for the purpose of performing an operational evaluation of them in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), under the auspices of the Rapid Equipping Force and the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). In order to provide increased situational awareness of any ballistic threat(s), a detection system will be integrated with the four (4) CROWS Lightning systems. This system will be capable of detecting incoming rounds and/or distant muzzle blasts, and provide near-instantaneous solutions to the shooter location. The integration shall provide the operator with information on the display regarding the threat location relative to the weapon position. The system should provide full cueing to the remote weapon and allow the operator to instantly command the weapon to the threat and lock on this position while on the move. The sensor system should provide a full mobile solution capability, via an integrated GPS/Inertial Navigation System, that will provide continuous updates of both shooter and vehicle positions while mobile. To accomplish this objective the contractor will modify, integrate and test the acoustic projectile detection systems graphic user interface (GUI) software onto the existing Lightning display and control group. In addition, the contractor will support Continental United States (CONUS) and OIF operational assessment of the integrated system as required.
See Note 22. The Government does not own the technical data package required to complete this integration. No other suppliers can integrate such a capability onto the Lightning systems without an understanding and specific detail of the hardware and software design of the Lightning system.
Point of contact for this requirement is Mr. Travis T. James, Building # 10, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000, E-mail: travis.james3@us.army.mil Commercial phone (973) 724-4591.
