Description
The Government intends to award a contract to Radical Systems, Inc. on a sole source basis for the following: Current military operations in Iraq have drastically increased the Army???s effort to support and repair weapons system elements returning from the Unit of Action. The workloads at depot repair facilities has grown exponentially, and requires depot personnel to repair, reset, calibrate and verify a greater number of line replaceable units (LRU???s) in a shorter period of time. Anniston Army Depot has the primary mission for repairing Main Battle Tank (M1/M1A1) LRU???s (specifically the Gunners Primary Site Azimuth Drive) and refielding them within a newly compressed schedule. Current support equipment used in this activity and located at Anniston is not sufficient to meet this new Army need for rapid repair. The equipment was developed more than twenty years ago, uses antiquated and unsupported technologies and has serious obsolescence issues. Replacement parts are difficult to find if available and any system down time at this point would severely impact the Anniston mission. In order to support these expanded support requirements, the current test stand must be upgraded and modified to take advantage of state-of-the-art technologies and tools while preserving current system functionally and procedures. The system must also conform to the Anniston test environment requirements, be seamlessly integrated in their current support structure, interface with there data acquisition software and hardware and have local support available. The Government has determined that there is only one contractor who can meet all the requirements of this effort in a timely and cost effective manner. Numbered note: 22, 26 apply. P.O.C. Richard Wheelwright, AMSTA-AQ-APJ, 973- 724-3941, rwheel@pica.army.mil.
