Description
MARKET SURVEY U.S. NAVY FLOW METER The US Navy is currently conducting a market survey in order to identify possible sources for the retrofit/replacement of a flow meter. The flow meter measures HVAC chilled water flow in piping onboard most US Navy vessels. The replacement flow meter must be capable of conforming to MIL-S-901 (shock requirements), MIL-STD-167 (vibration requirements), and MIL-STD-461 (EMI requirements). The ideal flow meter should be able to operate on 28 volt DC power and must have an output of 4-20 mA, proportional to applicable flow ranges including the following approximations: 0 to 1000 gallons per minute for 5 inch diameter (NPS) pipe, 0 to 1800 gallons per minute for 6 inch diameter (NPS) pipe, 0 to 3250 gallons per minute for 8 inch diameter (NPS) pipe, and 0 to 4000 gallons per minute for 12 inch diameter (NPS) pipe. Although standardization is preferred, the Navy will consider using a different type of flow meter for certain applications if necessary. The accuracy of the flow meter must be + or ? 5% of full range or better as installed. The flow meter accuracy should not be significantly degraded by lack of long lengths of straight pipe before and after the meter. The flow meter must be able to operate in a variety of mounting positions. Ease of installation, calibration, maintenance, and repair are factors that will be considered in the selection process. If needed a more detailed description of the requirements of the Navy can be provided. US and foreign firms interested in being considered should submit, in writing, a description of their product and technical specifications which fulfill the Navy?s requirements, or how it can be easily modified to meet these requirements, along with an estimated price and availability. This announcement is a request for information only and is not a request for proposal or announcement of solicitation. Firms which fail to respond may not be placed on the bidding list for possible future solicitation. The Government will not pay for any material provided in response to t his synopsis nor return any of the data provided. All responding firms will be contacted and may be requested to exchange information with Navy personnel. Replies should be sent to Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, 5001 S. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19112-1403 Attn: James Kelley, Code 921 Phone: 215-897-7241 Email: james.r.kelley@navy.mil
