Description

The projects consist of a follow up herbicide treatment to approximately 1006 acres of salt cedar and Russian olive regeneration along areas of the Pecos River corridor. A chemical application will be applied for the purpose of reducing invasive species, fire hazard potential, improving riparian habitat, and potentially increasing available ground and surface water. The project areas have previously been treated my mechanical extraction of salt cedar and Russian olive within the floodplain of the Pecos River. The project areas are not physically delineated by markers, but are self-evident when visiting the sites due to the disturbance from mechanical extraction. Areas within the project areas that where inaccessible to equipment because of ground conditions will also be treated by hand application of pesticide/herbicide. These areas will be identified and marked prior to the start of the project. Treatment may include some acreage of private land adjacent to federal land. Melena Salt Cedar Control Project, 300 acres.
