Description
This synopsis is being posted to both the Federal Business Opportunities(FBO) page located at http://www.fbo.gov/ and the Navy Electronic Commerce on Line(NECO) site located at http://www.neco.navy.mil. While it is understood that FBO is the single point of entry for posting of synopsis and solicitations to the internet, NECO is the alternative in case FBO is unavailable. Please feel free to use either site to access information posted by the Navy Sea Systems Command. PLEASE NOTE RESPONSE DATE FOR WHITE COPY IS DUE 30 JUNE 2006. The following additional question and answer is provided: What are we doing in DNS? The information age coming to undersea warfare has allowed the next generation of undersea warfare to be networked. Undersea DNS is a capability that provides persistent undersea surveillance and influence of the battlespace using a distributed system that includes Unmanned Undersea Vehicles, distributed sensors, capital platforms including submarines and surface ships, all networked together. I believe that there are Undersea DNS "building blocks" that can be configured to perform Undersea warfare missions including, SLOC, Sea Base defense, Barrier search, and Choke point. We must identify the enabling technologies and system function requirements of this next generation Undersea warfare capability. NUWC's first steps are to focus our scientific community on what we believe are the technology barriers that include sensors, transport, data fusion, communications, and detection in a distributed field. NUWC can not do this alone; we are asking for NAVSEA permission to collaborate with the technical and war fighting community by co-sponsoring (with NDIA) the inaugural conference in Undersea Distributed Networked Systems in November 2006. We look forward to the communities participation in the conference.
