Description
STATEMENT OF WORK/SPECIFICATIONS This project is the installation of water quality improvement measures within the Wharton Brook State Park, Wallingford and North Haven, New Haven County. The measures include 1) the excavation of a waterway and a shallow stormwater renovation basin with installation of a riprap chute inlet and a riprap weir outlet; and 2) protection of 3 sections of streambank, one using an estimated 20 live conifer trees for an anchored revetment and plantings, the second using plantings and the third using riprap, boulder rock (also, functioning as the waterway outlet) and a bank-placed log. Existing storm water pipes and broken asphalt in the area to be excavated and timber cribbing along Allen Brook will be removed. The total quantity of intermediate rock riprap is estimated to be 50 tons with 13 tons of bedding. Nine 30" to 36" round or potato shaped boulder rocks are to be supplied and installed. Trees, shrubs, and ground cover include basswood, mountain laurel, periwinkle, swamp azalia, blackgum, bankers dwarf willow, eastern red cedar, highbush blueberry, highbush cranberry, pussy willow river birch, shadbush, speckled alder, silky dogwood, sugar maple, sweet pepperbush, winterberry, mapleleaf viburnum are to be purchased and planted through an erosion control blanket. Topsoil will be salvaged from the area to be excavated, stockpiled until the site work is completed, then spread, seeded and mulched. Erosion and sedimentation measures including silt fence and a floating turbidity curtain will be installed before any excavation occurs. The project sponsor has obtained land rights and necessary environmental permits. The contractor is responsible for obtaining a Connecticut Department of Transportation Permit. Access, stockpiling, and staging areas shall be identified in a plan supplied by the contractor. The contractor is responsible for all aspects of the construction of this project including providing and placing the conifer tree revetment, plantings, erosion control blankets, rock riprap, bedding, and boulder rock. The tree for the bank-placed log and 3 conifer trees as marked by the inspector are to be harvested on-site. A site showing is scheduled for Tueday July 11, 2006 at the job site, 9:00 a.m. local time. (Contact Phililip Renn at 860-871-4016 for directions to the site showing).
