Description
This amendment provides responses to questions received: Q. Statement of Work, III. Submittal Requirements, Part A, 1.a: Please clarify where the 3? rough swan untreated running planks go. Are these to placed on top of the 2? wood decking? If so, do they cover the entire surface of the 2? wood decking? A: The 3 X rough sawn untreated running planks are to be placed on top of the treated timber decking for the full travel width (i.e. 5-foot width) as stated in the SOW section referenced by individual raising the question. The fabrication plans to be provided as a deliverable to the FS by the successful bridge manufacturer will show the attachment method of the untreated timber running planks to the treated deck. Typically this is performed using a minimum 3/8" diameter galvanized ring shank spike sized for length not greater than the combined depth of the running surface (minus any countersinking) and the bridge deck. Further conversations will be required with the successful bridge manufacturer on pre-bored hole diameters, fastener size and installation patterns before final approval is given on these details. Q: Can the bridge deck be ACZA treated Doug Fir? This treatment is the norm for our steel truss bridges when decked with Doug Fir. Side Note: Our timber bridges are typically treated with CU NAP(Copper Naphthenate). A: No. Copper Naphthenate in a light oil (Type C Solvent) will be the specified preservative treatment. Q: What is the expected rail height(42"or 54")? Are there to be horizontal safety rails, vertical pickets, or is the welded fencing by itself to keep people from falling through the truss? Is there to be a handrail or is the top chord of the truss to function as a handrail? A: The rail height is to be 54" above the top of the travel surface of the bridge. There are no horizontal safety rails or vertical pickets. The WWF safety fencing will serve as the safety barrier on the steel superstructure. The top chord of the truss shall function as the handrail in this installation. Q: Can our quote be submitted to you via fax or E-mail? If not, what are the procedures required to package our quote? A: SOW Section III.A.2 requests three (3) hard copies of documentation to be submitted in addition to the price quotation. Quotes may be faxed to 907-743-9492 or mailed to USDA Forest Service, Chugach NF, 3301 C Street Suite 300, Anchorage AK 99503. Quotes may also be emailed to: kweidenbaugh@fs.fed.us. Hard copy information in the correct number of copies requested should be delivered to the address provided by 28 June 2006 at 10:00 am Alaska Time.
