- This is a combined synopsis / solicitation for service being procured in accordance with FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. NOAA, National Marine Fisheries Service located in Seattle, Washington intends to acquire service for test feasibility and refine new methods for cryopreservation and transplantation of stem cells from the salmon gonad to produce fertile eggs from imperiled Pacific Salmon stocks. The period of performance is August 1, 2006 through July 30, 2008 The main aim of this work is to test feasibility and refine new methods for cryopreservation and transplantation of stem cells from the salmon gonad to produce fertile eggs from imperiled Pacific Salmon stocks. The specific tasks are: 1) Produce oocytes from cryopreserved gonadal stem cells from Redfish Lake sockeye salmon using Lake Wenatchee sockeye salmon as hosts. Immature testes from juvenile Redfish Lake Sockeye salmon will be harvested as a source of gonadal stem cells. The research will test methods for cell dispersion, cryopreservation, and transplantation to surrogate Lake Wenatchee that have been rendered sterile by inducing triploidy. 2) Produce eggs from cryopreserved, sexually immature ovaries transplanted to histocompatible, sterile recipients.
