Description
This Request for Information (RFI) is the initiation of market research under Part 10 of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), and is not a Request for Proposals (RFP). The Government does not intend to pay for any information furnished in response to this RFI. NAVSURFWARCENDIV Crane Chem/Bio Detection Program is requesting MARKET SURVEY information on a source to provide a detection unit in compliance with the performance specification for the currently fielded Improved Point Detection System (IPDS) MK26 Mod 0. NSWC Crane?s Chem/Bio Detection Program is interested in receiving information from academia and industry on the capabilities described below. Any technology may be submitted for review, but the requirement is sufficiently urgent to require a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 6 or greater. The detection unit must be capable of interfacing with the two current Display Units located on the Bridge and in Damage Control and also with the current external air sampling unit. The proposed solution should be highly reliable, have a minimum false alarm rate and have a low maintenance and low spare parts support requirement. The system must automatically detect and differentiate between nerve and blister chemical agent vapor concentrations at a threshold challenge of 0.1 mg/m3 for nerve agents and 10 mg/m3 for blister agents within 60 seconds of exposure. In addition, any proposed system must be capable of operating in a shipboard environment and must meet all requirements for this type of installation. Any questions pertaining to the current IPDS design or the interconnectivity of its? major components shall be directed to a technical POC listed below. The government is also interested in information on systems capable of providing the entire IPDS functions for new installations. This is not a solicitation; however, your response to this RFI will demonstrate your interest in subsequent Request For Proposals (RFPs). The Government does not intend to pay for the information requested. This is a request for information only and does not commit the government to award a contract, or to otherwise incur any liability associated with the submission of any response or related materials. Participation in this request is strictly voluntary and expenses will not be compensated. A copy of the Performance Specification for the currently fielded system is available upon request, and should be requested from the Technical POC or Alternate Technical POC listed herein. Please provide your responses to Technical POC Mr. Keith Sims, NSWC Crane, Code 805D, 300 Highway 361, Crane, IN 47522, telephone: (812) 854-5651 , email: keith.sims@navy.mil. Alternate Technical POC: Janet Lynch, NSWC Crane, Code 805D, 300 Highway 361, Crane , IN 47522 , telephone: (812) 854-5810, email janet.lynch@navy.mil . Responses to this RFI that indicate the information therein is proprietary or represents confidential business information will be received and held in confidence for US Government use only.
