Description

The purpose of this combined synopsis/solicitation amendment is to clarify a requirement of the solicitation. The requirement reads "All work shall be performed by a Caterpillar factory trained service tecnician only." To clarify this sentence, the technician or technicians performing service on SSA's generators may have training/knowledge/expertise in servicing other brand generators such as Koehler and Cummins, etc. however, their training/knowledge/expertise must include specific training/knowledge/expertise in Caterpillar generators as well. This Caterpillar brand training/knowledge/expertise is critical because the 3 SSA Caterpillar generators are required to start the 3 SSA Solar Titan turbine generators which supply emergency power to the SSA National Computer Center (NCC), the SSA NCC Utility Building and SSA Headquarters complex all in Woodlawn, MD. If at any time these 3 Caterpillar 3412 diesel generators fial to start the Solar Titan turbine generators, critical computer loads could be lost, which would have a catastrophic effect on the nationwide operation of the SSA. Accordingly, the due date and time for SSA's receipt of quotations remains unchanged at 3:00 p.m., local prevailing time, on Thursday, July 20, 2006.
