Description
Bechtel SAIC Company, LLC (BSC) is soliciting expressions of interest and requesting information on the design, fabrication, operation, and maintenance of shielded canister transfer equipment that will handle nuclear waste canisters. The following information is preliminary and is not guaranteed to represent the final design. The nuclear waste handled will be in cylindrical steel canisters of various sizes and weights as shown in the table below (Note: FedBizzOpps does not support this table, please go to our website at http://bscupdate.com/supplier_subcontractor/activerfi.pdf for the full Request for Information, including the size and weight table). The canisters are lifted from the top using remote grappling system. The present conceptual design of the equipment to transfer a canister from one container to another is using a shielded bell of wall thickness of approximately 12" and a shield gate at the bottom. Equipment is positioned directly above the container for lowering or removing a canister through a open hatch/port. The equipment must have the capability to remove a lid (Approx. 5 tons) from the container prior to removing the canister. The equipment must have the capability to transfer and place single large diameter canisters (66.5" OD) into one receiving container. The capability to access equipment at all the time for maintenance is required. The equipment must also have the capability to transfer and place up to 6 smaller canisters (18" to 24" OD) in to one receiving container (5 in the periphery and one in the middle) The equipment must also have the capability to place a shielded lid (Approx. 8 tons) in the receiving container after placement of canisters. Respondent is requested to provide the following information: 1) Design of equipment to handle canisters as described above. 2) Proposed design features to maintain shielding of canisters and provide equipment accessibility 3) Proposed methods of equipment operation. Regards, Larry G. Bannister RESPONSE SUBMITTAL: This is not a solicitation for Proposal and providing the requested information will not guarantee an award of Contract. All questions concerning this RFI may be faxed to (702) 295-0019. Responses are to be sent via E-mail: Larry_Bannister@ymp.gov on/or before July 21, 2006. Respondent must include the name, title, address, telephone number, facsimile telephone number, and email address of the responsible person to whom future communications regarding this RFI should be addressed.
