It is the Library?s understanding that Carl Zeiss is the only vendor who can provide all of the identified parts and accessories that are capable of meeting the Library?s critical performance requirements to upgrade the Preservation Research & Testing Division's existing instrument, a Zeiss Stemi SV-11 APO Stereo Microscope & Imaging Workstation that also meets the following needs: a custom dual monitor mounting pole that will hold the two non-VESA compliant 19" inch monitors in a side-by side-position and affix to the portable PC interface platform for PR&TD's Zeiss Stemi SV-11 APO Stereomicroscope and Imaging Workstation, adjacent to the optical bench in PR&TD lab SB-27; a custom extended pole-mount for the Zeiss Stemi SV-11 APO stereomicroscope that will permit maximum versatility in viewing objects of different dimensions; a 66 mm ringlight that can be attached to multiple Zeiss objectives on the Zeiss Stemi SV-11 APO stereomicroscope; a polarizer that will fit the 66 mm ringlight, above; a universal input adapter that will connect the 66 mm ringlight to PR&TD's KL1500 light source, currently used with the dual goose-neck fiber-optic lamps with polarizing filters, to allow variable illumination of samples and objects during microscopic analysis; ten high intensity EKE light bulbs that will fit PR&TD's DCRIII light source with polarizing filters, used for imaging optical discs; a custom metal insert plate with centering mount for insertion into PR&TD's 6 x 6 inch motorized stage, used for imaging optical discs, that will permit consistent centering of optical discs for automated mosaic imaging of the entire surface, and depth profiling, for image analysis; a Plan APO 1.6x objective that can be attached to the Zeiss Stemi SV-11 APO stereomicroscope, to extend the magnification range for microscopic analysis; a reflected light motorized stage capable of 8 x 8 inches of travel, that can be controlled by joystick or computer, and integrated with the digital image analysis function of PR&TD's Zeiss Stemi SV-11 APO Stereomicroscope and Imaging Workstation; a control mechanism for the 8 x 8 inch motorized stage for integration with the digital image analysis function of PR&TD's Zeiss Stemi SV-11 APO Stereomicroscope and Imaging Workstation that will permit automated movement of the stage to create mosaic images of large samples; all parts must be installed by a Carl Zeiss certified technician to ensure that the installation meets Carl Zeiss specifications for compatibility and functionality with PR&TD's Zeiss Stemi SV-11 APO Stereomicroscope and Imaging Workstation; installation must be conducted according to recognized Carl Zeiss practices in such a way that no damage occurs to the existing system and no warrantees or service agreements with Carl Zeiss are voided; the parts must be supplied by a local Carl Zeiss distributor who can provide 24-hour service response. Any other company that, at the time of application, (1) is either legally incorporated as a U.S. business entity or capable of demonstrating through its business plan its intention to be fully incorporated as a U.S. business, and (2) believes that it can provide all of the parts and accessories listed above and can meet all the above performance requirements can apply to the Library for consideration.
