- Description
- The Federal Bureau of Prisons is seeking information relating to wireless technologies. The Federal Bureau of Prisons is issuing this request for information to conduct market research as it relates to wireless technologies. It is important to understand that the Federal Bureau of Prisons is only seeking information relating to wireless technology. The information gathered from this request for information will determine if wireless technology can be securely utilized within the Federal Bureau of Prisons infrastructure. Please provide the following information when responding to this request for information: 1.0 Vendor Background 1.1 Describe your vision regarding the future of Wireless technologies. 1.2 Are you committed to open industry standards? Will you be an active participant in proposing new standards to help advance the industry? List examples. 1.3 Provide 3 or more large Wireless reference accounts. 2.0 Planning and Surveys 2.1 Will you perform a site survey? Describe what factors are identified during the survey. 2.2 What types of documentation will be needed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons to complete the survey and installation 3.0 Design 3.1 What type of Access Points will be used for indoor and outdoor locations? 3.2 How will the Wireless Local Area Network interface with the wired infrastructure? 3.3 How will the Wireless network balance load on adjoining Access Points if an Access Point fails? What latency can be expected in case of Access Point failure and what happens after the recovery. 3.4 Do you recommend locally housed configurations on Access Points or utilizing a configuration server? 3.5 Will the infrastructure support Voice over Internet Protocol? How and how many clients can simultaneous connect to an Access Point? 3.6 Describe how video will be supported including what types of cameras? 3.7 How will power to the Access Points be provided? 3.8 How will the range of coverage of the Access Points be determined and maintained? 3.9 What wireless physical standards 802.11 a/b/g do you support/ implement? How do you plan to support .11n? 3.10 Will your design support Internet Protocol v6? 3.11 How will roaming be handled in the design? Please explain inter and intra subnet roaming and re-authentication process if required. 3.12 Will the design support resource tracking? How 3.13 Will you support multiple Virtual Local Area Network?s on the wireless network? How will they be routed? 3.14 What types of wireless NIC?s will be supported? 3.15 How is the design adjusted to deal with environmental factors? Please explain how the system handles interference from neighboring Access Points. 3.16 How will Quality of Service be utilized to allow for access to wireless devices across a Wide Area Network circuit? 3.17 Describe the various servers that will be implemented to support the full wireless architecture to include hardware requirements and software installations. 3.18 How scalable is the design? What is required to scale from 100 end nodes to 1000? 4.0 Security 4.1 How will secure connections be created? 4.2 What type of authentication will be utilized by endpoints? 4.3 How will physical security of the Access Points be implemented? 4.4 What type of encryption will be supported? 4.5 How will Access Points be mounted both indoor and outdoor to provide security? 4.6 How will security for visitor access be designed? Please explain your solution for secure guest access. 4.7 Describe any data infrastructure security features you can provide to mitigate snooping attacks, Denial of Service attacks, viruses and worms. 4.8 Describe specific things that have been done to harden the operating systems of the various support servers as well as the Access Points. 4.9 Describe the user authentication for network users that is stronger than those that rely only on password for establishing the validity of a claimed identity. 4.10 Are your products Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 certified? Explain which Extensible Authentication Protocol types are supported. 5.0 Installation 5.1 Do you provide site survey tools/services? How do you propose we conduct a site survey and design our Wireless Local Area Network? 5.2 Do you support Type1 cabling to the Access Points? 5.3 How will Access Points in hard-to-reach areas be installed? Who will provide the equipment? 5.4 How will the physical wiring to Access Points be protected? 5.5 What cabling standards will you follow for the physical connection to the Access Points? 5.6 How will the Access Points be tied together (ie hard wired to switches, daisy-chained, etc.) 6.0 Administration 6.1 What types of management software will be implemented? Describe the benefits of each. 6.2 Can the system be administered through a standard internet browser? Can system administration be done either locally or remotely? 6.3 Is the administration system secure from unauthorized access? How is this security provided? 6.4 Does the system provide for remote and local statistics and diagnostics? 6.5 How are rogue Access Points detected and located? 7.0 Support and Documentation 7.1 Will training of BOP staff be conducted both at the field sites and at the Central Office? How? 7.2 How long after installation will support be provided? 7.3 After installation, how will the network be tested and/or certified? 7.4 What type of documentation will be provided after installation? 7.5 What levels of support are offered?
