Description
Travis AFB intends to award a sole-source purchase order for the subscription to the Ovid Technologies Inc., medical library database. Ovid Technologies provides access to multiple databases that are used by healthcare providers involved in patient care and research. The databases contain journal references to medical, nursing, mental health, dental, and healthcare administration literature, and coverage extends back to 1951. Unique qualities of Ovid include its search options and functionality?Auto Alerts, citation manager, access to menu driven (basic) or advanced functions, links to full text articles, vocabulary mapping, multifile searching and deducing capability, and onscreen support. It also allows the user to see which journals are owned by the library and request interlibrary loans directly from the search page. It has an interface that is intuitive and easy to use, and users can print, e-mail, display, download, or order an unlimited number of citations. Users can also save their search strategy and results and re-execute it at a later time. The Auto Alerts function allows users to save their search and have the system run automatically execute it whenever the database is updated. Its extensive vocabulary features include thesaurus, scope notes, tree structures, subheadings explode capability, and a permuted index for each database. It also provides multiple searchable fields and numerous ways to limit retrieval. Ovid allows users to access every subscribed database with a single logon and interface. Users can also access, with a single login, other Ovid databases that are located on the Air Force Virtual Library (e.g. CINAHL, Evidence Based Medicine, PsycInfo, the Lippincott full-text journal collection). This is an ongoing service to be used at David Grant Medical Center, Building 777, Travis AFB, CA; period of contract 1 Oct 06 through 30 Sep 07.
