Description
The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), San Carlos Irrigation Project (SCIP) has a requirement for the rehabilitation of the China Wash Flume. The China Wash flume is a reinforced concrete flume on SCIP. It is located approximately 8 miles east of Florence Arizona, or about a 90 minute drive from downtown Phoenix. The structure is located immediately adjacent to a road and is readily accessible. The flume was constructed in 1927 and is used to convey water over a dry desert arroyo, bridging a span of approximately 70 feet. The flume is a unique design consisting of four 12-foot diameter, 6-inch thick, reinforced concrete semi-circular barrels. The barrels are suspended from 5 concrete arches by steel suspension rods. Corrosion of the reinforcement bar (rebar) located within the concrete barrels has resulted in the cracking and spalling of the exterior concrete surface of the barrels. The rehabilitation includes removal of the deteriorated concrete from the exterior of the barrels, repair/replacement of deteriorated rebar as needed, installation of a sacrificial anode system, and surface preparation and augmentation of the repaired areas with a quality concrete cover. In addition, concrete retaining walls located under the structure are exhibiting deterioration and will require repair similar to that described above for the barrels. The sealing of the interior of the barrels with a methacrylic sealer, the replacement of lateral braces between the arches, and other minor repairs will also be required. The entire irrigation system is routinely scheduled for a ?dry-up? during the month of November. During this period no water will be flowing thru the flume. It is projected that the project will take approximately two months to complete. It will be necessary to complete any work requiring a dry flume during the November dry-up. Estimated Project Amount: $250,000.00 to $500,000.00 REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RFP) ISSUE DATE on or about AUGUST 2, 2006. ONLY WRITTEN OR FAX REQUESTS for RFP will be accepted. FAX No. (602) 379-6763. NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE. RFP DUE DATE: SEPTEMBER 1, 2006.
