BRAND NAME JUSTIFICATION TRANSITION: This Justification and Approval (J&A) on a brand name only basis is for the use of Transition Brand media converters and chassis. The use of a brand name description is essential to the Government?s requirements, for Department of State infrastructure connectivity requirements, thereby precluding consideration of the products of another company. IRM/OPS/ITI/LWS/ITL has identified the Transition media converters and chassis as key components of the Department?s networking system. Equipment listed above is required to provide network connectivity to existing Department of State?s enterprise network cabling infrastructure based on compatibility with existing Transition media converters and chassis installed at multiple U.S. Foreign Missions and the standardization of warehouse management, bills of materials issuance, and successful installations and subsequent converter replacements. The Transition Media Converters are necessary for installation and replacement into Transition media converter centers (chassis); other brands of converters are not compatible with each others? chassis?. Using other brand name media converters would require restocking the warehouse with other brand name chassis? to accommodate the other brand name converters. Simple one-for-one replacement would not be practical as it may entail a completely new chassis and multiple media converters at one or more locations, for example, all that may be required is to add a media converter, this would not be possible if the media converter is a different brand than the existing chassis and media converters. The use of a brand name description is essential to the Government?s requirements, for Department of State infrastructure distribution requirements, thereby precluding consideration of the products of another company. IRM/OPS/ITI/LWS/ITL has identified the Panduit non-metallic raceway, fittings, and accessories as key components of the Department?s network distribution system. Equipment listed above is required to provide network cabling distribution to existing Department of State?s enterprise network distribution systems based on compatibility (size, color, fit, etc) with existing Panduit non-metallic raceway presently installed at U.S. Foreign Missions worldwide. The Installations Branch currently has Panduit non-metallic raceway in stock and requires the same name brand to maintain distribution system integrity, and standardization of warehouse, bill of materials, and installation management. The Panduit non-metallic raceway, fittings, and accessories are necessary for seamless integration and installation to existing non-metallic network cabling distribution systems. Using other brand name non-metallic raceway, fittings, or accessories would require restocking the warehouse with the same other brand name non-metallic raceway components and subsequent replacement of entire distribution systems at U.S. Foreign Missions worldwide to ensure compatibility. Simple one-for-one replacements or additions as needed would not be practical as it may entail a completely new cabling distribution system at one or more locations.
