Description
AERIAL APPLICATION OF PELLETED HERBICIDE Application of pelleted herbicide with Contractor-furnished property using aircraft at the locations shown on the project location maps. Requirements: Furnish written certification from the supplier of the Contractor-furnished herbicide that it conforms to the requirements of this section. Submittal shall be in accordance with Section 01009 - General Information and Requirements. PROJECT CONDITIONS: A. Work Limits: The Government will define with surveyors ribbon the outer perimeter of areas to be treated. Areas which are to be excluded from pellet application will be identified by the Government on site at the time of application or as identified on the Project Location Maps. Latitude and longitude will be provided for each project when the contract is awarded. The latitude and longitudes shown on the project location maps are uncorrected data, actual points could be + or - 100 feet, and will be marked with 10 foot aluminum poles and surveyors ribbon. B. Work Hours: Pellet application will be permitted only during daylight hours. Flying shall be done anytime during the day. C. Landing Facilities: The Contractor shall obtain required landing facilities. The Contractor assumes full responsibility and liability for airstrips or landing areas used. D. Environmental Conditions: Aircraft will not be allowed to release pellets or turn within 500 feet of agricultural crops or residences having plants susceptible to damage from herbicide when using fixed-wing aircraft capable of applying pellets at speed of 140 mph or less. PERSONNEL: A. The Contractor shall hold an agricultural aircraft operator certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration, and will operate aircraft used in the project as civil aircraft. Aircraft use will be in compliance with 14 CFR Part 137, Agricultural Aircraft Operations. End product Contractors using aircraft as a tool to fulfill contract requirements will meet the PPE standards in 351 DM 1, Aviation Life Support Equipment Handbook. B. Pilots: Shall meet certification requirements of Federal Aviation Regulations for this type of work and shall be furnished by the Contractor. C. Ground Crew: Shall be furnished by the Contractor. MATERIALS: Contractor-Furnished Herbicide: 1. General: Deliver Contractor-furnished herbicide in original, unopened containers. 2. Herbicide: Shall conform to the following: Active ingredient: tebuthiuron: N-[5-(1,1-dimethylethl)-1,3, 4-thiadiazol-2-yl]-N,N'-dimethylurea=20%. Inert ingredients = 80% Contains 0.2 pounds active ingredient per pound of product. EPA registration No. 62719-121 EQUIPMENT: A. Aircraft: 1. General: The Contractor shall furnish aircraft to apply pelleted herbicide to the designated areas in the time specified. Aircraft must have communications provided by the Contractor with the ground crew and the Government Inspector. 2. Type: Aircraft used shall be fixed wing only, capable of applying pellets at 140 mph maximum. 3. The aircraft must be equipped with a guidance system equivalent to or better than the Sat Loc 4 Star Guidance system. The system must have an on-board display screen and a computer capable of downloading data for each project on a 3 ? inch diskette. Contractor shall also have onsite a laptop or equivalent computer and printer capable of providing a printout showing the location and amount of work accomplished each day. B. Pelleted Dispersing Equipment: Aircraft shall be equipped to carry pellets with a distribution mechanism complete with release, shutoff, timer, and spreading device which can be calibrated for application of pellets at the prescribed rate and uniform pattern. C. Special Aircraft Requirements: Contractor shall furnish properly equipped aircraft with pilots experienced in applying pelleted herbicide in rough terrain in hot temperatures. D. Flagging Materials and Equipment: If used in conjunction with the GPS system shall be furnished by the Contractor.
