Description
THIS SPECIAL NOTICE IS NOT A REQUEST FOR A PROPOSAL. A SOLICITATION DOCUMENT WILL NOT BE ISSUED AND PROPOSALS WILL NOT BE REQUESTED. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) intends to procure on a sole source basis to Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc., Malvern, Pennsylvania for the installation of a 1.5T Interventional cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system purchased from Siemens. This requirement will be obtained through a modification to NIH Contract Number N02-HL-3-4214 with Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc. for a ?3.0 Tesla Interventional Magnetic Resonance Imaging System.? It is believed that Siemens is the sole source for this requirement based on the authority of FAR 6.302-1. The purpose of this program is to support the collaborative research program between Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc. and NIH to study the use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in the clinical evaluation of novel interventional methods in cardiac MRI. Over the last several years, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of NIH has been developing new MRI techniques for the evaluation of cardiac patients. NHLBI installed an interventional 1.5 Tesla MRI scanner in the Cardiology Branch to perform clinical evaluations of these methodologies. This contract provides turn-key installation of a novel Interventional MRI system. Successful operation of the system will be dependent on precise engineering required to smoothly integrate the new interventional MRI system. This process requires the co-installation of a MR compatible x-ray fluoroscopy table that is customized to fit with the MRI machine. All electronic connections and power sources for the system must be compatible with a RF shielded environment. Modification of the scanner, control, and electronics rooms of the site will be required to install the new electronic components associated with both the new MRI scanner and the X-ray fluoroscopy table. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, interested parties may identify their interest and capabilities in writing within ten (10) calendar days after publication of this synopsis. A determination by the Government not to compete this contract modification based on responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Comments to this notice should reference contract number N02-HL-3-4214 and can be submitted to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, Contracts Operations Branch, Procurement Section, 6701 Rockledge Drive, Suite 6142, Bethesda, Maryland 20814-7902.
