Combiners typically contain resonant cavities and dual isolators tuned to pass certain frequencies a nd reject other frequencies Lightning Protection System: Passive and Active components designed to shunt the energy of a lightning strike to an installed grounding system. The protection system consists of coaxial cable shield grounds and in-line surge arrestors mounted in enclosure s, and connected to the grounding system with copper conductors. Radio Frequency Power Amplifier: Amplifier installed in the output transmission path of a transmitter designed to amplify output power to an acceptable range. Used to increase service volume (reception area) or raise power to overcome losses in transmissi on lines. Tone-Remote Console 4 Line (Radio Remote Control Console): A radio control device which uses tones to control radio base stations and repeater equipment. Consoles provide audio amplification and line impedance matching capabilities. Unit is capable of c ontrolling multiple radios using matched tone controlled units remotely located. 3.0 BACKGROUND McNary Dam is in the process of replacing the installed radio equipment. The transmitter combiner combines the output of the new transmitters to the Emergency Notification System (ENS) distributed antenna system that is currently installed at McNary. Wi thout this device a new distributed antenna system would be required. The new installation requires additional lightning protection and coaxial cable grounding which was not required for previous installa tions. The output power of the new transmitter is insufficient allow to power the distributed antenna system without additional amplification. Currently installed tone control equipment is obsolete and is no longer supported by the manufacturer. 4.0 GENERAL 4.1 GENERAL INFORMATION 4.1.1 This section covers the purchase of electronics equipment to support new radio installations at McNary Dam.
