Description
OVERVIEW The Conference of National Armaments Directors (CNAD) is the senior NATO body responsible for promoting cooperation in research and development of technology in support of production and procurement of defense equipment among NATO nations. The CNAD is comprised of the most senior defense procurement officials from all NATO countries. As a result of the NATO June 2004 Istanbul summit, CNAD started an imitative to counter the threat of terrorist attacks. The CNAD Programme of Work on the Defence Against Terrorism (PoW DAT) involves ten specific efforts, including the Defence Against Mortar Attack (DAMA) initiative. DAMA is lead by the Netherlands, and it focuses on means and methods to counter the threat posed by terrorist use of mortars against static objects during peace operations. In March 2007, a DAMA Proof of Concept Demonstration will be conducted at the Air Defence Firing Range in Todendorf, Germany (located on the Baltic Sea, east of Kiel). Live mortar firings will take place in realistic environments with many currently available systems as well as emerging technologies. It is expected that practical solutions within all seven of the DAMA pillars (prevent, detect, warn, intercept, protect, attack and C2) will be presented. Companies with products or services that can contribute to defending against mortar attacks will have the opportunity to showcase them to key operational officials from NATO member states. Additionally, the event will serve as a venue for discussing improvements in interoperability between forces. ELIGIBLITY While the deadline to receive an official invitation was 30 June 2006, it may be possible to still register if you are interested. The U.S. Department of Commerce was only recently notified about this exhibition. Requests for participation sent directly to NATO cannot be considered. If your firm would like to apply for participation in this exhibition, you must first complete a Questionnaire that will be provided by the U.S. Department of Commerce. To request a copy of the CNAD Questionnaire, send an email to Lcarpent@bis.doc.gov or Dnewsom@bis.doc.gov. The completed Questionnaire must be submitted to the CNAD Exhibition Team ASAP. Instructions for submission will be included with the Questionnaire. Also included will be background information on DAMA. The selection of exhibitors will be completed by September 2006. NATO CNAD will inform all applicants, selected or not, about the results of the selection process. A handbook that will assist in the set-up for and conduct of the event, will then be sent to the selected exhibitors.
