Description
CDC, National Center for Infection Diseases (NCID), Division of Viral and Rickettsial Diseases (DVRD) has developed a number of rapid assays for the diagnosis of orthopoxviruses, specifically to rule out smallpox. The Real-Time PCR assay has been developed for this purpose, utilizing a number of platforms. Now that the protocol has been validated for all platforms, it is of vital importance that these assays be usable in a ?field? situation. Most of the equipment used in the lab is not feasible to take out into the field, due to it?s size, weight and power requirements. We need a fully integrated real-time PCR system that has the capaiblity to be easily transported with a cartidge system that would reduce the risk of external contamination during sample preparation. Instruments having glass accessories are not desired. Through market research, the GeneXpert System (GX4000N3-3), GeneXpert cartridges and diagnostic software developed by Cypheid, Inc. is the only system known to meet our needs. This equipment is designed to take into the field for outbreak situations and EPI studies. This instrument is fully integrated real-time PCR system that includes a complete on-board nucleic acid purification system and real-time PCR tube in a compact, programmable cartridge. The system utilizes proprietary dried reagant technology for ambient temperature stability and precision microfluidics-based reagant reconstitution. The instrument is capable of being configured with as few as 1 or as many as 16 samples independently programmable sample processing sites. This notice announces our intent to negotiate on a sole source basis with Cepheid, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA as the only known system meeting our size, weight, power and voltage needs which does not utilize glass accessories. All responsible sources may submit a quote for equipment meeting our stated needs to the Contracting Officer within 15 days of the synopsis. All quotes shall be considered by the agency. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed action based on responses received is solely within the discretion of the Government. Please address all inquiries/quotes to Denise Rains, CDC PGO, 315 East Montgomery Ave., Spokane, WA 99207 or call (509)354-8111, fax (509)354-8099 or e-mail dgr8@cdc.gov. Offeror must be registered in the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) @ www.ccr.gov. This acquisition is being processed under FAR 13, Simplified Acquisition Regulations.
