Description: The VA Iowa City intends to conduct a sole source negotiation with Datex Ohmeda, Madison WI, to provide all equipment, tools, material, and supplies for the maintenance of Anesthesia Machines for the period of 10/1/06 through 9/30/07 with two (one year) options included. VA Biomedical Engineer has requested that only the manufacturer (Datex-Ohmeda) be considered due to the possible liability if said equipment would malfunction. Biomedical Technician stated that the failure of this equipment could result in death or a serious injury of a VA patient. The VA would like this liability to remain with the manufacturer of the equipment and not a third party contractor.
