Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) needs to procure a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) probe for solid state NMR experiments on aggregated proteins and peptides. This NMR probe muste be suitable for operation in a 14.1 Tesla magnetic field at the NMR frequencies of 1H, 13C, and 15N nuclei (HCN operation). This NMR probe must be capable of high-speed magic angle spinning (MAS) and high-power proton decoupling, as required for typical solid state NMR experiments on proteins and peptides, and must contain balun circuitry for improved sensitivity and radio-frequency field homogeneity. The MAS NMR probe must meet the following specifications: 1) must be compatible with the dimensions of an existing Oxford Instruments wide-bore 14.1 Tesla NMR magnet; 2) must contain three radio-frequency channels, capable of simultaneous operation at 1H, 13C, 15N NMR frequencies in a 14.1 Tesla field (599 MHZ, 151 MHZ, and 61 MHZ respectively); 3) probe must accommodate samples that are contained in MAS rotors with a 3.2 mm outer diameter and with the dimensions and design of Varian PENCIL rotors. The probe must be capable of spinning these rotors at speeds up to at least 24 KHZ in the case of rotors with 11 microliter and 22 microliter sample volumes; 4) probe must produce radio-frequency fireld amplitudes of at least 130 KHZ for 1H nuclei, 100 kHz for 13C nuclei, and 60 kHz for 15N nuclei; 5) probe must contain a balun circuit for the 1H radio-frequency channel in order to achieve greater radio-frequency field homogeneity and improved cross-polarization matching at high MAS speeds compared with an unbalanced circuit. All vendors that can provide the Government with the items listed above may request a copy of the Request for Quote (RFQ) in writing or by FAX to 301-480-8502 to the Contracting Office prior to the closing date of this notice. It is anticipated that the RFQ NIH-NIDDK-06-1016 will be available fifteen (15) days after the publication date of this synopsis. Receipt of quotations will be due ten (10) days after the release of the RFQ. The anticipated award date is September 22, 2006. Request for copies of the RFQ must be in writing to the National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, 6707 Democracy Blvd., Room 775, Bethesda, MD 20817 Attention: Patricia Haun. FAX quotations must contain offerors name, address, telephone number and fax number. FAX quotations will be accepted if dated and signed by an authorized company representative. FAX NUMBER 301-480-8502.
