- Description
- NASA/GRC plans to issue 4 Requests for Proposal (RFPs) for items/services related to the advanced development of the Ares I (also known as the Crew Launch Vehicle) upper stage Thrust Vector Control subsystem. Two of the draft RFPs will be posted individually in early to mid-September while the other two will be in the December 2006 timeframe. Target release dates for the final RFPs are included in the descriptions below. The purpose of this combined/general synopsis is to provide for the earliest notice of these schedule-driven procurements. Each procurement will also be individually announced to allow for direct posting of its draft and/or final solicitation. GRC anticipates an Industry Briefing, addressing these procurements, to be held in the Cleveland, Ohio area on September 21, 2006. A separate announcement detailing this event has been posted on FedBiz Opps. For further information, please refer to: http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/Procure/Industry_Day.html The planned RFPs are as follows: 1: Ares I Actuator Assembly - Develop (design, fabricate, test) an actuator assembly for the Ares I Upper Stage Thrust Vector Control Subsystem. The scope of the advanced development effort includes working with NASA GRC to develop requirements, performing the design of the actuator assembly through CDR, fabricate, test and deliver Engineering Model (EM) hardware, and support Ares I Subsystem testing prior to CDR. EM hardware is expected to have flight-like form, fit, and key functionality and meet relevant environment requirements. The anticipated value of this procurement is $6M - $9M. Target date for release of draft RFP NNC06ZDD020J is September 1, 2006. Target date for release of final RFP NNC06ZDD020R is mid-October 2006. Technical Point of Contact: Clint Ensworth, Mail Code: 500-103, NASA Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, OH 44135, (216) 433-6297, Clinton.B.Ensworth@nasa.gov 2: Ares I Battery Assembly ? Develop (design, fabricate, test) a lithium ion battery assembly for the Ares I Upper Stage Thrust Vector Control Subsystem. The scope of the advanced development effort includes working with NASA GRC to develop requirements, performing the design of the battery system through CDR, fabricate, test and deliver Engineering Model (EM) hardware, and support Ares I Subsystem testing prior to CDR. EM hardware is expected to have flight-like form, fit and key functionality and meet relevant environment requirements. The anticipated value of this procurement is $2M - $5M. Target date for release of draft RFP NNC06ZDD021J is mid-September 2006. Target date for release of final RFP NNC06ZDD021R is mid-October 2006. Technical Point of Contact: Patricia Loyselle, Mail Code: 309-1, NASA Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, OH 44135, (216) 433-2180, Patricia.L.Loyselle@nasa.gov 3: Ares I Electric Pump/Controller Assembly ? Develop (design, fabricate, test) an electric pump/controller assembly for the Ares I Upper Stage Thrust Vector Control Subsystem. The scope of the advanced development effort includes working with NASA GRC to develop requirements, performing the design of the electric pump/controller assembly through CDR, fabricate, test and deliver Engineering Model (EM) hardware, and support Ares I Subsystem testing prior to CDR. EM hardware is expected to have flight-like form, fit and key functionality and meet relevant environment requirements. The anticipated value of this procurement is $2M - $5M. Target date for release of draft RFP NNC06ZDD022J is mid-September 2006. Target date for release of final RFP NNC06ZDD022R is mid-October 2006. Technical Point of Contact: Jim Dolce, Mail Code: 301-5, NASA Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, OH 44135, (216) 433-8052, James.L.Dolce@nasa.gov 4: Ares I Turbine Pump Assembly ? Develop (design, fabricate, test) a cold gas driven turbine which supplies power to a hydraulic pump for the Ares I Upper Stage Thrust Vector Control Subsystem. The scope of the advanced development effort includes working with NASA GRC to develop requirements, performing the design of the turbine pump assembly through CDR, fabricate, test and deliver Engineering Model (EM) hardware, and support Ares I Subsystem testing prior to CDR. EM hardware is expected to have flight-like form, fit and key functionality and meet relevant environment requirements. The anticipated value of this procurement is less than $2M - $4M. Target date for release of draft RFP NNC06ZDD033J is December 2006. Target date for release of final RFP NNC06ZDD033R is January 2007.
