Description
The Rapid Unified Generation of Urban Databases (RUGUD) Army Technology Objective (ATO) is requesting information regarding commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and government off-the-shelf (GOTS) tool capabilities for inclusion in an urban database generation capability. The RUGUD program supports the Synthetic Environment Core?s Database Virtual Environment Development (DVED). The concept behind RUGUD is an open framework that allows COTS and GOTS tools to work cooperatively to compose terrain generation systems. RUGUD provides the infrastructure to track, manage, and manipulate data as it moves through the system, but relies on COTS and GOTS tools to perform import, cleanup, conflation, and tailoring, and export of data into multiple disparate end-use products. One of the main goals of the RUGUD framework is to allow the use of the best COTS/GOTS tool for each component of the terrain generation process. This request for information (RFI) is being issued to survey Other Government Agencies, Private Industry and Academia, to collect information and data that would be useful in exploring terrain generation capabilities. Purpose for the Request for Information: This is not a solicitation for contract. The purpose of this request for information (RFI) is to survey Other Government Agencies, Industry and Academia, in order to collect information and data about urban database generation capabilities. Other Government Agencies, Industry and Academia Participation: This exercise will identify other government, industry and university organizations that have an interest in providing information on their recent developments and future plans for urban generation capabilities. All interested technology providers/vendors are invited to participate in this exercise on a purely voluntary basis. Survey Information: Please include information regarding each of the following in your response. These include cost, licensing, breadth and maturity of the tool to meet a particular component capability, ability to execute through API or parameterized command-line, ability to execute individual capabilities independent of others (e.g. generate TIN). RUGUD attempts to use the best tool available for any particular terrain generation capability. As such, lack of capability in one or more areas does not exclude a tool from consideration. In addition to the information provided above use the following numbered weights to indicate the level of maturity of each identified capability. Guidance is as follows: 4 ? Industry leading capability 3 ? In line with current industry capability 2 ? Individual pieces needed to compose capability exist and can be instrumented collectively to satisfy capability 1 ? Some capability and/or near-term (within 1 year) planned enhancements 0 ? little or no capability exists An ?explanation of capability? statement should be included to provide justification for the rating. Please provide all or as much information as possible on compact disks, DVDs, memory sticks and/or other appropriate digital media no later than 31 August 2006 to the Simulation & Training Technology Center (STTC)/RDECOM, ATTN: Mr. Julio De La Cruz, 12423 Research Parkway, Orlando, FL 32826-3276. *It is anticipated that the results of the RFI will identify other government agencies, private industry and academia that have an interest in providing information on their recent developments and future plans for urban generation capabilities. This is not a solicitation for a contract; however, those entities that respond with information should submit their response no later than 30 September 2006 to the attention of Mr. Julio De La Cruz, Lead Principal Investigator, Phone (407) 384-3733, Fax (407) 384-5440, email address Julio.Delacruz@us.army.mil. Development and publication of a technology roadmap does not constitute Army/ RDECOM/STTC direction to start any contractual efforts. All participation from interested technology providers/vendors is on a purely voluntary basis. This RFI is for planning purposes only, and should not be construed as a Request for Proposal (RFP) or solicitation of an offer. RDECOM-STTC does not intend to award a contract on the basis of the information provided or otherwise pay for this information. RDECOM-STTC will not provide reimbursement for any cost associated with responding to this RFI.
