DELIVERY: As soon as possible after award of contract. DELIVERY ADDRESS: Defense Technical Information Center 8725 John J. Kingman Road, Suite 0944 ATTN: Mr. Jim Cox, DTIC-ZM (703) 767-8067 Fort Belvoir, VA 22060-6218 INSTALLATION ADDRESS: Same as delivery FAR 11.105 Brand-Name Justification: DTIC currently implements and operates its DMZ Web registration system, the Joint Staff J34 Core Vulnerability Application Management Program (CVAMP), and a number of other critical applications using Apple WebObjects middleware application. Apple has ended support for WebObjects development and production services on other than Apple hardware and Apple Mac OS X 1.4.7 operating system. This limits DTIC to use of Apple Mac OS X systems in support of development and operation for these critical applications. DTIC?s existing SIPRNET Mac development desktop systems are over four years old, our out of warranty and are increasingly difficult to maintain and must be replaced. Further, DTIC develops and operates Web Sites for the Department of Defense that must be compatible with multiple browsers including Apple?s Safari and the Apple Version of Firefox. To ensure compatibility Apple Mac OS X systems must be used to test HTML code and other elements of web site code. Finally, DTIC-A Component Information Support has existing Apple Computer systems that out of warranty and currently or soon will not be able to support the the latest versions of Apple Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 operating system. Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 running on the Intel processor chip sets improve compatibility between Windows OS and Mac OS X, ease implementation of PKI card operations, and provide improved performance. Apple is the only manufacturer of systems that can run Mac OS X operating system, and thus the only source to allow DTIC to continue to perform it mission and support its DoD customers properly. The Government intends to award based upon low-priced, technically acceptable quote. Award will be made as early as September 21, 2006. All interested, responsible parties should contact the contract specialist, Joseph Fortuna via e-mail joseph.fortuna@dla.mil or phone 703-767-9562 no later than September 20 for a copy of the solicitation.
