Description
The Project Manager for the Law Enforcement Advanced Protection (LEAP) Project Materials and Systems Integration Team at the U.S. Army Research, Development, and Engineering Command, Soldier Systems Center, Natick, MA has a need to identify potentia l textile materials for applications within Law Enforcement (LE) Duty Uniforms (DU). LE DU is considered the first layer of protection for the operator and forms the basis of the protective systems for LE officers. The materials utilized in the fabricatio n and construction of the DU must provide basic levels of protection during regular duties and be optimized with for integration with other systems. The government is conducting a market investigation seeking product information, manufacturing capabilitie s, and/or samples of lightweight materials that will provide the following capabilities (but not limited to): flame retardance, anti-microbial, blood born and pathogen barrier protection. Other important properties to be included are cut/tear/abrasion resi stance, air permeability, moisture vapor transfer, comfort, and durability to weather exposure (including UV degradation). Interested firms are requested to submit information on their products within thirty (30) days following the publication of this syno psis. Information should include, but is not limited to, product cost, technical information (e.g. physical properties, performance characteristics, test methodology (e.g. ASTM, AATCC)), certification/compliance, relevant company background/experience, and any other information that the company believes demonstrates the value of their product(s) and the ability to meet the aforementioned requirements. Information provided to the government may be used to develop future Law Enforcement Personal Protective Eq uipment (PPE) Standards for Duty Uniform Materials. Initial information/samples submitted to the government under this announcement will not be returned, and no payment will be made by the government for any information/samples submitted.
