Description: The U.S. Department of State Office of Acquisition Management intends to issue a Sole-Source purchase order to Columbia University / Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, Palisades, New York, for a data-intensive seismic study. The goal of this project is to identify seismic doublets (or tightly clustered events) that have occurred in East Asia between 2001 and 2005, using official foreign seismic bulletins as the initial search guide, and the waveform cross-correlation analysis as the primary validating tool. Once the doublets are identified, they will greatly improve the quality of regional seismicity maps, thereby benefiting the earthquake hazards reduction and mitigation, and promoting regional cooperation.
