Description
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Acquisitions Management and Operations Branch (AMOB) has a requirement to house, feed and care for an estimated 55 non-human primates (consisting of a fluctuating mix of approximately 25 infant and juvenile chimpanzees, and an approximately 50 Old World and New World non-human primates) and species other than non-human primates (an estimated 25 other small animals consisting of rats, mice, rabbits, Guinea pigs or other small animals). The use of species other than non-human primates will represent a small part of the level of effort for the Statement of Work. The contractor must have the ability to house and study non-human primates at the ABSL3 level of containment. The contractor will also perform routine procedures on these animals which shall include, but not be limited to: inoculation of the animals with various hepatitis and other agents, monitoring animals for signs of disease, treatment with therapeutic regimens, and collection of specimens as described by protocols furnished by the Project Officer. Clinical specimens shall be drawn and delivered freshly from the animal to NIAID within 2 hours after being drawn; preferably by 11:00 A.M. on the day obtained in order to achieve optimal virus viability. Upon request, the Contractor?s professional and technical personnel assigned to this contract shall meet with NIAID scientists as needed, for 2 hours, commencing at 1400-1500 hours. The NIAID intends to award a one-year contract with four (4) one-year options beginning on or about January 1, 2007. Offerors must have appropriate facilities available to house and care for the animals specified; have the ability to perform studies at both the ABSL2 and ABSL3 levels of containment; possess an AAALAC International file number, an OPRR Animal Welfare Assurance number, and a USDA R Registration (Class R-Research). This is not a Request for Proposals. The intention of this announcement is to notify potential offerors that the Request for Proposals will be available for download on or about October 13, 2006 from www.fedbizopps.gov.
