Description
Personal Services Contract -Armed Guard Services Personal Services Contractors- Per Diem independent contractor positions in the New York / New Jersey metropolitan area to work as a District Security Officer (DSO) handling prisoners in cell blocks, courtrooms, hospital security details, handling jurors, serve process, and other duties as assigned. Work is on call, as needed, intermittent, and requires varying shifts often for extended hours. Weekends and holiday work required. Position carries no law enforcement authority while off duty, and is limited to duties assigned by the United States Marshals Service (USMS). The purchase orders will be issued with a fixed hourly rate and will not exceed the total dollar value. Multiply awards will be made. Minimum requirements: Former/retired sworn federal, state, or local law enforcement officers with a minimum of 1 year full-time law enforcement experience who are separated no longer than 5 years from law enforcement employment, former/retired military police with full-time experience who have performed comparable duties supervising detainees on a regular basis and who are separated no longer than 5 years from law enforcement employment, or private security/correctional officers. Employment as a private security officer does not qualify applicants unless they have at least 3 years of full-time security duties monitoring detainees on a regular basis. Applicants must also have received an accredited law enforcement certification of training. Academic or technical training may not be substituted for experience. In compliance with HSPD-12, all DSOs are required to pass a full background investigation reflecting no criminal convictions, bankruptcy, or judgments. Be a United States citizen; at least 21 years of age; high school diploma or equivalent; speak, read and write the English language; Possess a valid driver's license; Possess a valid firearms permit; Demonstrate bi-annual proficiency in firearms that meets USMS standards; May be required to qualify with other intermediate weapons as needed; Be physically able to perform the full range of DSO duties without limitation. Former law enforcement officers who are disability pension annuitants do not qualify. Provide an annual medical examination clearance reflecting no immediate medical problems (e.g., amputations, deformities, disabilities, etc.) that would restrict strenuous exertion or prevent satisfactory performance including the ability to lift heavy objects, reach above the shoulder, use of all extremities, standing and sitting for prolonged period and other criteria available upon receipt of a resume; Have no history of medical problems (e.g., uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart or respiratory disease, etc.) that would restrict strenuous exertion; Have no other health-related problems such as alcohol dependency, controlled substance abuse, illegal drug use, mental illness, or psychological disorders which impedes their ability to perform the essential functions of the position; Must not have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence. The applicant must be able to comply with all requirements of the Lautenberg Amendment. All costs associated with firearms qualification and medical examinations are the responsibility of the applicant. Failure to meet the requirements shall be immediate grounds for termination of the independent contractor status of the individual candidate. The USMS is an equal opportunity employer.
