Description
The Asymmetric Warfare Group (AWG) is seeking information from potential sources regarding a requirement for a personal thermal beacon marking system that identifies friendly forces using thermal imagers. FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITIES REQUIRED: 1. Device shall be no larger than 2 inches by 3 inches by 1 inch volume. 2. The device must be capable of attaching to MOLLE equipment without modification. 3. The device shall have a battery life of no less than twelve (12) hours and must be powered by batteries currently in the Army inventory i.e. BR2/3, AA or AAA. 4. The device shall produce a thermal strobe visible by US military and other DOD thermal imaging devices that are currently in use. 5. The device must be clearly distinguishable using US military and other DOD thermal imaging devices. 6. Signal shall be visible from a ground platform (Stryker, M1, M2, LAV, etc.) at a minimum of 1000 meters. 7. Signal shall be visible from an aerial platform using thermal imaging devices at a height of 20,000 feet. 8. Device shall not be visible with the naked eye at night from a distance of one (1) meter or greater. 9. Device shall be omni-directional. Vendors responding to this RFI should provide detailed information on their capabilities and experience to : Asymmetric Warfare Group ATTN: Mr. John Crone, 2286 Morrison St., Ft. Meade, MD 20755. Interested vendors are need to provide the following: Phy sical address; company POC; phone and fax number; e-mail address; device description to include weight, size, power, and performance capabilities; data format (s); available timeframe and a description of current or past efforts in thermal beacon devices. Respondents must clarify if their organization can provide commercial or non-developmental/prototype items that could be modified to meet AWG requirements. Written responses are limited to five pages plus pre-printed brochures. Responses may be submitted any time on or before 3 November 2006, 1600 EST. All proprietary portions of the submitted responses must be clearly identified. Proprietary information also MUST be marked as such, on a page-by-page basis.
