- Description
- A potential licensing opportunity exists with Battelle Energy Alliance (BEA), the prime operating contractor for the Department of Energy at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL). BEA is soliciting a written indication of interest from industrial partners interested in entering into a license agreement for the purpose of commercializing its Quantitative Spatial Imaging System. A prototype Quantitative Spatial Imaging System has been designed and built by BEA to demonstrate a means of conducting physical spatial calibration in video images at reduced cost and increased accuracy of spatial measurement. There has been a need to make improvements to identify, stabilize, clean, and decommission underground piping. The majority of pipe, at most decontamination and decommissioning projects, is less than six inches in diameter and much of it remains under existing buildings. Initial testing was performed in a four (4) inch diameter pipe and yielded approximately five percent (5%) error in spatial measurements. This prototype unit utilizes ten co-linear laser beams created by miniaturized laser diodes with integrated optics aligned perpendicular to one another with 5 beams on the X axis and 5 beams on the Y axis. These ten lasers produced a fiduciary matrix at the camera lens? focal length, thereby creating reference points used to obtain a calibrated spatial map over the entire image. These points remain constant regardless of camera type, aspect ratio, lens configuration, focal length or magnification, provided the region of interest is in focus on the computer screen. This is not an opportunity to provide goods or services to BEA or the DOE. This solicitation will close to responses 60 days after publication. Interested parties should send a description of their company and their experience in commercializing new technologies to the following address: Gary W. Smith, Sr. Account Executive, Technology Transfer and Commercialization, Battelle Energy Alliance, P. O. Box 1625, MS 3805 Idaho Falls, ID 83415-3805; E-mail is gary.smith@inl.gov
