File Code: 5160/7130 Date: April 4, 2005 Route To: Subject: Fire Emergency Vehicle Markings To: Forest Supervisors, CRGNSA Manager Fire emergency vehicle marking standards have been approved for the Pacific Northwest Region. The standards provide for safety, consistent appearance and application, as well as adherence to agency policy and direction for fleet vehicle marking. Implementation of the Fire Emergency Vehicle Marking Standards is to begin immediately. Fire emergency vehicle marking standards include: ? An approved Forest Fire Emergency Vehicle Operating Plan and Job Hazard Analysis must be in place. ? Each fleet vehicle designated as a fire emergency vehicle shall be approved by the Forest Supervisor and identified in the operating plan. ? Approved fire emergency vehicles shall have the standard marking and emergency lighting package. Striping or lights only are not acceptable. ? The fire emergency vehicle marking package shall follow the standards for design, labeling and color as identified in the enclosed document. ? All vehicles which are not approved as fire emergency vehicles shall have non-standard markings or equipment removed no later than next annual maintenance/safety inspection for the vehicle (within one year). ? Approved fire emergency vehicles which currently have non-standard markings will, at a minimum, immediately correct the organization, unit and position identifiers. Striping will be brought to standard as unit budgets allow or when the vehicle is replaced. The Fire Emergency Vehicle Standards will provide an added measure of visibility to enhance safety in incident management, represent the Forest Service as a cohesive professional fire organization, and enhance daily operations and incident response through standard nomenclature and design. Questions on implementation of the standards may be directed to Jeff Pendleton, Chair, Regional Fire Emergency Marking Committee, at (541) 575-3103, Carl Gossard, Assistant Director of Fire Operations at (503) 808-6461, Becky Hutchins, Regional Equipment Manager at (503) 808-2393, or Shonni Hanks, R6 Fleet and Equipment Specialist at (503) 808-2892. /s/ Richard W.
