Description

VA Maryland Heath Care System VAMHCS intends to award a sole-source contract to Bayer Diagnostics for Point of Care A1c analyzers, test cartridges and control kits. The VAMHCS is basing its sole-source justification on an August 30, 2005 Point of Care Testing of Hemoglobin A1c report from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality which provides data on all A1c testing devices. In this report it states that there are twenty-one (21) devices that meet the NGSP Certification requirement. Out of that twenty-one (21) devices there are nine (9) devices that have no interference with Hb variants and derivatives. Out of those nine (9) there are three (3) devices that are CLIA waived for low complexity. During VAMHCS research for this procurement it is determined that the Bayer analyzer is the only device that meets all three requirements for NGSP Certification, CLIA waived and no interference with Hb variants and derivatives.
