Description
This notice is a combined synopsis/solicitation, Notice of Intent. The Midwest Area for the Agricultural Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture intends to issue an award to The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center pursuant to 41-U.S.C. 253(c)(1)-Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. This procurement is for the identification of proteins in tissue samples. Most of the work on these samples will be done by USDA laboratory personnel using the equipment located and owned by The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center. 100 2-dimensional gels will be run using standard techniques, half to be used to assay protein distribution in samples and half (50) to be blotted to nitrocellulose membrane for comparative immunological analysis using provided primary antibodies. The 50 protein distribution gels to be scanned by high-resolution optical scanning and computer analysis of the images to be performed measuring comparative protein distribution and spot volume of individual proteins. This data is to be compiled in a form to compare gel to gel and blot to blot as needed and to provide a basis for selecting individual protein spots to identify. Individual spots (1,100 total) to be excised from the gels, digested and peptides prepared by standard techniques. The mass distribution of the peptides will be determined by electrospray mass spectroscopy (ms/ ms). MALDI assay of mass distribution is not acceptable for this project. The resulting peptide mass distribution is to be searched against databases and proteins identified. Files, charts and figures will be produced from this data correlating gels, blots, comparative protein abundance and identification. All responsible parties should submit written (mail or email) no telephone inquiries will be accepted) responses including prices and technical data sufficient to determine capability to meet the entire requirement and must be received in this office within 10 days after publication of this notice. It should be noted that no contract will be awarded on the basis of offers received in response to this notice, but will be used to determine if a comparable source more advantageous to the Government is available. If no affirmative written responses are received, negotiations will be held with The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center without further notice. This acquisition is being conducted under the Federal Acquisition Streamlining Act, Simplified Acquisition Procedures.
